The Gasharu region, located in the Western Province of Rwanda near Lake Kivu, is ideal for coffee cultivation due to its rich volcanic soil, high altitudes, and favourable climate. The family behind Gasharu Coffee has taken advantage of these natural advantages to produce some of Rwanda's finest specialty coffees.
Gasharu Coffee produces washed, natural, and experimental fermentation process coffees, known for their vibrant acidity, fruity notes, and silky body. They operate two washing stations where coffee cherries are meticulously processed to ensure their quality. The company emphasizes sustainable farming practices, including organic farming techniques and water conservation at their washing stations.
Community Focus
Gasharu Coffee is also deeply involved in community development. They work closely with smallholder farmers, offering training on best agricultural practices and ensuring ethical trade. The company also prioritizes gender equality, with programs to support women farmers and workers in the coffee production process.
