TRACEABILITY

At the heart of Muhororo’s operations, over 200 local households bring their freshly picked coffee cherries to the washing station, marking the beginning of the coffee journey. Each lot of cherries undergoes a careful process: first, they are meticulously pulped, then fermented for 12 to 14 hours, and finally washed to remove any residual mucilage. After washing, the beans are laid out on raised beds to dry in the sun for 12 to 15 days.

Every year, Muhororo Coffee generously distributes 4,000 new coffee trees to local growers and provides comprehensive training on sustainable farming practices in partnership with the Rwanda National Agricultural Export Development Board.

Looking ahead, Muhororo has ambitious plans to build a daycare facility for the children of parents engaged in the labour-intensive harvest and processing work that coffee demands. This initiative aims to provide a nurturing environment along with essential healthcare and educational resources. Additionally, they plan to donate pigs that can produce piglets, fostering further redistribution within the community to stimulate the local economy.
